City of Warren Ways and Means Committee approves budget amendments and salary increases in first meeting of 2024

WARREN, Ark. – The City of Warren Ways and Means Committee convened on Wednesday at the Warren Municipal Building for their first meeting of the year, with Alderman Chairman Dorothy Henderson presiding over the session. Aldermen Memory Burks Frazer and Emily Moseley were also in attendance, along with Warren Mayor Gregg Reep.

The meeting, held in preparation for the upcoming regular monthly City Council meeting on Monday, covered various crucial aspects of the city’s affairs.

One significant decision made during the meeting was the approval of the final reconciliation amendment to the 2023 budget, as required by law.

The Committee also deliberated on a funding request from the Bradley County Historical Museum, seeking financial assistance to support its operations. While the museum had requested $2,400, the Committee approved $2,000. Additionally, the Committee expressed a desire for the museum to extend its public operating hours as part of the funding contract.

A notable point of discussion centered around amending the elected officials’ salaries resolution. The Committee recommended an increase in the salary for City Council members for 2024, raising it from $250 a month to $350 a month. This adjustment would be the first increase in quite some time. The Committee did research salaries in neighboring communities.

Industrial property possibilities for the future were also considered during the meeting, but no action was taken.

Furthermore, the Committee recommended a modest raise for the City pool manager during the summer months.

All decisions made during the meeting are subject to approval by the full Warren City Council, which is set to convene on Monday evening. The Council’s endorsement will be necessary for the proposed amendments, funding allocations, and salary adjustments to become official city policies.
