Warren Street crews out in full force working to improve traction

WARREN, Ark. – City of Warren Street Department crews braved the chilly temperatures on Wednesday to address the aftermath of a winter storm that struck the region earlier in the week. The freezing temperatures overnight Tuesday created a slicker ice pack, posing challenges for residents and city operations.

On Tuesday, traffic flowed relatively well as the top layer of late snow provided some grip to vehicles. However, the drop in temperatures during Tuesday night and Wednesday morning exacerbated road conditions, making them a bit more difficult to travers. Reports have come in of accidents in other areas of the County, though Warren seems to have been spared at the time of this article’s publication.

As of Wednesday, roads in Warren were passable throughout the town, but caution was advised due to the prevalent snow and ice pack. The City’s Street Department strategically placed sand in certain spots to enhance traction and improve safety.

The adverse weather conditions have impacted the City’s garbage routes, leading to the suspension of services on Thursday. The City has announced a revised garbage pickup schedule, with plans to resume resident garbage pickup on Friday. If all goes as planned, the entire town will be serviced by Saturday. Residents can find detailed information about the revised garbage pickup schedule here.

Despite the challenges, Warren City Hall is open, and the Mayor’s Office is fully staffed. Residents are encouraged to call 870-226-6743 with any concerns or issues they may be facing.

However, the Bradley County Courthouse and the Landfill will remain closed for the remainder of the week, with plans to reopen on Monday. County trash pickup is set to resume on Monday, starting with Monday’s route.

Both Warren and Hermitage School Districts have canceled classes for Thursday, and the decision to resume school on Friday will depend on whether road conditions improve sufficiently.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of the winter storm, city officials are working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of residents, urging caution and cooperation during these challenging conditions.
