1st Quarter

Subiaco Academy looked like a team with experience and a track record of State Tournament play in the early minutes. The Trojans found success on the offensive end, hitting a couple of jumpers and taking a 7-2 lead over Warren in the first minutes of the opening period. Antonio Jordan scored the Jacks’ first basket of the ballgame from a nice inbounds play, as the orange and black trailed 7-5 with five minutes left in the first quarter. David Jordan scored just a possession later with an assist from Tramond Miller. Miller himself contributed a couple of big buckets late in the period as Warren took a 20-18 lead into the second.

2nd Quarter

Neon’dre Thomas set the tone for Warren’s defense on one of Subiaco’s first possessions of the second. The junior made a steal and helped force another turnover a minute or so later. Warren’s defense was relentless. Subiaco kept pace, but they were forced to work for the points. Antonio Jordan would help keep Warren in front with an effort from inside the paint. Miller followed Jordan with back-to-back baskets, including one from a steal, helping to extend the Lumberjack lead to 26-18 with 5:39 to go in the half. The Trojans would close the gap slightly just before halftime as Warren led 33-27.

3rd Quarter

Jordan and Miller got the Jacks off the mark early in the third, followed by a basket from David Jordan from a really nice baseline run. Thomas pulled off another one of his signature worldie layups at the 2:00 mark to bring Warren’s lead to 56-46. Subiaco cut the advantage to four before Antonio Jordan sank another bucket late on for Warren to extend the lead to six. However, the Trojans got a lifeline courtesy of a drained half-court shot at the buzzer to end the third. Warren led 61-58.

Tramond Miller posted 31 points in Warren’s win over Subiaco Academy Tuesday.

4th Quarter

Subiaco cut Warren’s lead to just 61-60 right off the bat in the opening seconds of the fourth. Warren was unable to convert on the other end of the floor. The Trojans took the opportunity and grabbed a lead with just 6:54 remaining in the contest at 62-61. Antonio Jordan answered back with an unequivocal message of no surrender from beyond the arc. His three put Warren back in front. With four minutes to go, the game was all tied up at 67-67. With just 2:42 left, Tramond Miller would make a steal and hit the layup to put Warren ahead 73-70. Two possessions later, Miller drove inside off a fast break. It looked like his path was cut off, but the Lumberjack point guard lofted a shot that kissed high off the glass and in to put Warren up 77-73. Just a minute or so later, with seven seconds to go and Warren ahead 81-79, Miller was fouled and sent to the line. He missed both free throws, but after Subiaco rebounded the ball following the second shot, Miller picked the Trojan pocket as they attempted a short-range pass. He calmly banked in the layup to put the game out of reach. The buzzer sounded as the Lumberjacks came away with a huge 84-79 win.

Coach Correy Muldrew’s Postgame Comments

Speaking exclusively to Saline River Chronicle following the win, Warren Coach Correy Muldrew applauded his team’s attack. “We were aggressive, which led to us shooting 35 free throws,” said Muldrew. “We scored 84 points tonight, and we didn’t play a clean game offensively,” he continued. Subiaco “is a very good team,” but “we kept our composure and finished the game.”

Muldrew, who was at the helm of the program when Warren last made a State Tournament, noted how big of a win this was for Warren High and what it means to be putting on the orange and black in front of a statewide audience. “We are extremely proud to be representing Warren on this stage.”
