Lady Jacks triumph 10-5 over Hampton in 2024 season opener

WARREN, Ark. – The Warren Lady Jack Softball team kicked off their season against the Lady Bulldogs of Hampton with an impressive 10-5 victory Tuesday evening, February 27, 2024.

In the top of the 1st inning, Hampton took an early 1-0 lead. However, in the bottom of the inning, Haven Johnson was hit by a pitch, followed by Ember Johnson’s RBI double. Bayleigh Miller then drove in another run with an RBI single, putting Warren ahead 2-1 by the end of the 1st inning.

The 2nd inning remained scoreless.

The Lady Bulldogs managed to tie the score in the top of the 3rd inning, while the Lady Jacks left 2 base runners stranded in the bottom of the 3rd.

Hampton then surged ahead in the top of the 4th, taking a 5-3 lead. However, Warren quickly responded in the bottom of the 4th as Presley Reep kicked off the inning with a double. Reep later scored on Haven Johnson’s RBI double, narrowing Hampton’s lead to 5-4.

In the top of the 5th, the Lady Jacks’ defense held the Lady Bulldogs to a three-up, three-down inning, allowing Warren to take a 6-5 lead. Bayleigh Miller reached base after being hit by a pitch, followed by a Paige Byrd single. Miller then scored on Livi McKinney’s RBI single, while Byrd crossed the plate on a passed ball. Presley Reep added another run with a RBI on a ground out.

Once again, Warren shut down Hampton in the top of the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 6th, Warren’s offense exploded. Blythe Calloway reached base on an error, and Haven Johnson followed up with a double. Ember Johnson then hit a two-RBI double, while Bayleigh Miller singled. Breize Fellows contributed with a two-RBI double. After the 6th inning, Warren led 10-5.

Although Hampton loaded the bases in the top of the 7th inning, Warren’s Livi McKinney turned an unassisted double play to end the threat.

For the Lady Jacks, Blythe Calloway scored a run, Haven Johnson went 2-3 with 2 doubles, scoring 2 runs and notching an RBI. Ember Johnson went 2-4 with a double and a triple, tallying 3 RBIs and scoring 2 runs. Bayleigh Miller went 2-3 with 2 singles, an RBI, and 2 runs scored. Paige Byrd went 2-4 with 2 singles and scored a run. Breize Fellows went 2-3 with a single, a double, and an RBI. Livi McKinney went 1-4 with a single that produced an RBI and scored a run. Presley Reep went 1-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Raeleigh Milton went 1-3.

On the mound, Raeleigh Milton pitched a full 7 innings, walking 2, striking out 3, and conceding 5 runs on 6 hits.

The Lady Jacks will travel to Camden Fairview on Thursday for their next game.
