Warren cruises to 22-1 victory at Watson Chapel

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Warren baseball squad followed Wednesday’s dramatic win with a much more comfortable game as the Lumberjacks routed Watson Chapel by a score of 22-1 Thursday evening in Pine Bluff.

The Jacks improved to 8-4 on the season and 4-2 in 4A-8 action, while Watson Chapel now stands at 3-5 and 1-3 in league play. Ren Reep pitched a five-inning complete game for Warren and allowed one run on one hit with eight strikeouts against four walks. The Orange and Black outhit the Wildcats 11-1 and also walked 14 times in the contest.

Bryson Harris drove in the first run of the contest on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first and Warren scored four more in the top of the second to take a 5-0 edge, highlighted by a two-run single by Nathan Spears.

The Jacks really broke the game open in the top of the third with an eight-run inning. Reep drove in AJ Jordan for the first run of the frame and Kolby Pope smoked a run-scoring double to score Jude Cathey. Warren would go on to score six more runs with the help of an error, two balks, and two wild pitches by the Wildcats. Watson Chapel scored their lone run of the game in the bottom half to put the score at 13-1 after three.

The fourth inning would see Warren continue scoring with nine more runs, highlighted by a pair of two-run singles from Cathey and Mason Wardlaw, to push the score to 22-1. Neither team would score the rest of the way to clinch the win for the Jacks.

There were a number of standouts on the offensive side for Warren, led by Pope, who has reached base in every plate appearance the last two games. The junior went 2-for-2 tonight with three walks, five runs scored, and an RBI. Tucker McDiarmid scored four runs, while Jordan and Cathey each touched home plate three times. Reep was the only other player to have multiple hits with a 2-for-3 effort to go along with an RBI and run scored. Jackson Denton, Spears, Wardlaw, Harris, and Cathey all registered two RBIs apiece. 

The Lumberjacks will look to keep the momentum rolling into the month of April with a non-conference matchup at Sheridan on Monday, April 1. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
