Jacks take sole command of the 4A East with win over Conference rivals Hamburg

WARREN, Ark. – In a thrilling 4A East Conference showdown, the Warren Lumberjacks triumphed over Hamburg with a decisive 2-0 victory on Friday evening at Jim Hurley, Jr. Stadium to put the Jacks in first place alone at the top of the Conference.

The first half saw both teams vying for control, with an evenly matched opening seven minutes. Warren’s Daniel Castillo made a promising run towards goal, only to be denied by a strong defensive effort from Hamburg. However, Warren’s relentless pressure in the final third paid off in the 29th minute when freshman sensation Jacarlos Marquiz capitalized on a precise through ball, calmly slotting the ball into the far corner to give Warren a 1-0 lead.

At halftime, Warren maintained their slim advantage, buoyed by Marquiz’s clinical finish. The second half saw Hamburg coming out with renewed vigor, hitting the crossbar early on in a bid to equalize. Marquiz, eager to extend Warren’s lead, nearly found the net again in the 55th minute, but his shot sailed over from close range.

Warren’s goalkeeper, Jessie Cortes, showcased his skills with a crucial save in the 59th minute, denying Hamburg’s long-range effort. As the game intensified, tempers flared on the Hamburg side, resulting in multiple yellow cards for Hamburg players.

The pivotal moment came in the 76th minute when Marquiz displayed his class once more, executing a brilliant move to create space outside the box before unleashing a powerful low shot that nestled into the net at the near post, putting Warren ahead 2-0.

Despite Hamburg’s efforts, they were dealt a blow when a player received a second yellow card for dissent, reducing them to ten men.

The final whistle confirmed Warren’s 2-0 victory, solidifying their position at the top of the 4A East Conference with an impressive 5-0 record in conference play and a 7-3 overall record.

Looking ahead, the Warren Lumberjacks will face off against Monticello in their final conference game, aiming to maintain their unbeaten streak.
