Lady Jack Softball triumphs 5-2 against Crossett

The Lady Jacks faced off against the Lady Eagles of Crossett in a crucial match on Friday night, April 12, 2024, at their home ground in Warren.

Crossett took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning with a leadoff home run. In response, the Lady Jacks couldn’t get anything going and went down 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning.

The Lady Eagles were quickly retired in the top of the 2nd, and unfortunately, the Lady Jacks didn’t fare any better in their half of the inning.

The Lady Jacks’ defense held strong, keeping Crossett from adding to their lead. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Presley Reep singled to lead off, but despite a walk by Breize Fellows with 2 outs, both runners were left stranded. After 3 innings, Crossett maintained a 1-0 lead.

Crossett couldn’t muster any offense in the top of the 4th, going down 3 up 3 down. In the bottom of the 4th, Ember Johnson kicked off the inning with a double. Charlee Wardlaw then smashed a home run, giving Warren a 2-1 lead. This marked Wardlaw’s 1st home run of the year. Natalie Hargrave followed up with a single, but she was left on base as the inning concluded.

In the top of the 5th inning, Crossett rallied with 4 hits, tying the game 2-2. Breize Fellows and Haven Johnson both singled and scored on hits by Ember Johnson and Charlee Wardlaw. Warren regained the lead 4-2 after 5 innings.

Crossett attempted a comeback in the top of the 6th, but the Lady Jacks’ defense shut them down. Warren secured an insurance run as Blythe Calloway singled and scored on Breize Fellows’ double.

The Warren defense held strong in the top of the 7th, sealing a 5-2 victory.

Next up, Warren will travel to Star City on Tuesday.
