Verna Mae Hunter, 1937-2024

Verna Mae Hunter, age 86, of Warren, AR went home to her Lord and Savior on April 11, 2024 at Chapel Woods Nursing Home in Warren, AR. She was born to the late William Arvel and Letha Blanch Johnston on September 12, 1937 in Cleveland County, AR.

Verna Mae was a life-long Free Will Baptist. She graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1955 and was Vice-President of her senior class and also played basketball. She enjoyed being with her family, loved to cook and faithfully served in her church. She worked at various jobs in her lifetime and retired from the Warren School District.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings Willie John Johnston, Erma Jean Johnston, Shirley Fay Johnston, Reba Sue Johnston, Wilma Dean Gasch, Glenda Ann Roachell, Deborah Kay Polk and Mattie Jane Cotton.

Verna Mae is survived by her husband of 68 years, Victor Hugh Hunter, her two sons Bruce Allen Hunter (Brenda) and Larry Wade Hunter (Joan), her two grandchildren, Jacob Allen Hunter (Cheryl) and Hannah Elizabeth Bryant (Blake), her two great-grandchildren Wyatt Oliver Hunter and Walker Howard Bryant, her brother Charles Everette Johnston as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Frazer’s Funeral Home with Reverend Wayman Mann officiating. Burial was in Moseley Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Jacob Hunter, Blake Bryant, Jerry Clay, James Johnston, William Cotton and Greg Harton.
